The repeat motif that fills the field of this unusual rug is referred to as a 'boteh' or pine cone. You see it in antique paisley shawls and other textiles either handwoven in India or inspired by their centuries old designs, Interesting here is the beautifully rendered border of anemone flowers that frame the boteh field on all sides. At the top and bottom of the rug is a short natural color wool fringe emulating oriental weaving treatments. The coloration is shades of wine and rose on a camel ground with turquoise, colors also found in early paisley shawls.
