A rare find is this Ohio Amish sewn rug. It is made by sewing long narrow strips of woolen clothing scraps that have been unravelled at the edges on to a mattress ticking foundation. The result is a shaggy effect in great early colors. See a similar example in the Kidron Amish Museum in Holmes County Ohio. I don;t know if this type of rug or mat making was practiced among the PA Lancaster County Amish, it may be a Midwestern handicraft. These rare rugs have been| mistakenly thought to be Shaker. .
