CIVIL WAR ALBUM SAMPLER ANTIQUE QUILT, Rahway, N J, Rev.Young

CIVIL WAR ALBUM SAMPLER ANTIQUE QUILT, Rahway, N J, Rev.Young

Sku:10839

Dated 1864, a rare quilt made to express sentiments concerning the Civil War. Signed in most blocks, including the Reverend Young, RAHWAY NEW JERSEY. Includes pieced flags of several countries, and unusual pieced quilt squares. Note the Civil War sentiment "'United We Stand." Blocks set on point in an apricot color tiny print sashing One minor replacement to a sashing strip. Sadly, the backing shows deterioration at the corners that does not affect appearance or useability especially if hung for display.

A full description and appraisal of this quilt is in the February 2013 issue of  The Quilt Life Magazine, in my column For All It's Worth.

Some geneological research was initiated; here are legible signers and their page location in period NJ census records as begun by the ATHM.
