| A refined elegant crazy quilt where the only embroidery is in varied, beautifully rendered flowers scattered here and there. There are no over-embroidered seams as in other Victorian crazy quilts. Unusual 'crazy' quilt in that there is practically no embroidery save for the occasional small blossom nestled in the occasional piece. Intriguing arrangement in which random shape scrap pieces of silk were grouped together first into diamond shapes, then these joined into lengthy bars made of several thousand pieces of silk overall. Occasional break in some silk, unnoticable with all the visual variety of the piecing and up and down directionThis sophisticated interpretation has random shaped pieces joined first into diamond shapes, then arranged as rows or strips. Initialled M.E.W. Bordered in sexy black silk satin quilted in one-inch diamonds like that used forthe lapels of Victorian dressing gowns or smoking jackets. Near mint condition; occasional silk splits are nearly invisible among the more than 1,000 small pieces.
