AMISH INDIANA FRIENDSHIP VINTAGE QUILT, HELMUTH FAMILY 1932
| A rarity among the Amish anywhere is this Nappanee, Indiana friendship quilt signed Mrs. Andrew Helmuth and others; in every block there is an embroidered name and sometimes a floral motif. Lettering is wonderfully gothic (or like old German) Embroidered signature blocks in fine handwriting record several families who live within 20 miles of Nappannee Indiana, a well known Amish and Mennonite region. Deep pastels of the 1930s with a nice wide border to frame them all. Used as the batting is a pastel striped sheet or thin blanket. This type of quilt is often made but rarely leaves the community. A special find for a collector
