ENGLISH MOSAIC or HONEYCOMB
| The classic English hexagon pattern is fashioned with gentle prints and solids and white.(It appears even more pale in tone due to overall color softening that came with washing and age.) Thousands of quarter-sized hexagons form the mosaic units - 6 pieces encircle a 7th at the center. The different fabrics have been 'fussy cut"m that is orchestrated so the lines or elements align in relation to each center hexagon, Other names for this pattern are Honeycomb, and in the US in the early 20th century, Grandmother's Garden.The colors are randomly placed throughout the field so that darker 'flowerheads' emerge from a paler surround. There is some restoration to a few hexagonal groupings. The condition overall remains strong and usable.
