Six blocks are filled with applique figures probably from bible stories, fashioned in the manner of the renowned Harriet Powers slave-made bible quilt now in the Smithsonian. It is possible the maker of this piece saw pictures of the Powers quilt and made her own version. Sophisticated black/grey/white palette of suiting and other wools with some cotton. Intended to be hung on the wall; no batting or backing.
