| By rotating the direction of the Bowtie elements from left facing to right facing, the black 'background' has become an additional design element and appears to be octagons emerging from the pieced quilt surface. This optical illusion is heightened by the contrast of the varied pastels in the Bowties with the classic black sateen seen often in Amish quilts from the Holmes County Ohio region. Excellent condition and workmanship, maker unidentified.
