| This exuberant 'Fans' variation quilt was used as the cover image of the book "American Quilts: The Democratic Art 1780-2007" ( Robert Shaw, Rizzoli, published Oct 2009).The many Fans blocks are organized in groups to create an image of concentric squares so the quilt face appears three-dimensional, as if several squares of decreasing size were layered one atop the other. Irresistible colors--rich solid velvets in raspberry, teal, ochre. The book cover color came out too golden. Email us for accurate photos. Small almost unseen 'ties' anchor the layers instead of stitching, making another lively element on the surface. A distinctive graphic pattern that is quite uncommon, and now has this wonderful history to add.
