Termed a 'charm' quilt because it should contain 1,000 pieces of different cotton prints. We can see without counting that this is a a fabric lovers dream with a huge variety of earth tone prints from the 1870s and 1880s. Cut from prints in which browns predominant and prints of a white background to alternately unite in rows of jaunty contrast. There is a rhythm to the placement of the tones so it does not read dark. The occasional turquoise strip is a lovely complement to the earthiness.
