A 'Marseilles' woven bedspread of rare appearance| with palm tree motifs woven in a soft red. Traditional Marseilles spreads replicate the handquilted 18th century whitework of France| and are all white. Manufactured primarily in England before the turn of the 20th century. This is perhaps the second or third Marseilles with motifs woven in color that I have ever seen. The technique here is the best quality| emulating trapunto quilting in whitework with raised motifs everywhere.
