A 'Marseilles' woven bedspread of rare appearance with palm tree motifs in a soft red woven in. Traditional Marseilles spreads replicate the handquilted 18th century whitework of France and are all white. Manufactured primarily in England before the turn of the 20th century. This is perhaps the second or third Marseilles with motifs woven in color that I have ever seen. The technique here is the best quality emulating trapunto quilting in whitework with raised motifs everywhere.
