CENTENNIAL KERCHIEF 'TUMBLERS' ANTIQUE QUILT
| The iconic lithographed kerchief depicting the buildings at the 1876 World's Fair--the Philadelphia Exhibition--is the medallion centerpiece of a 'Tumblers' pattern pieced 'charm' quilt. Whew!! Historic quilt trends are present in this one significant quilt. One is the 'Charm' quilt concept incorporating a multitude of earth tone prints never (perhaps hardly ever )repeating. These prints were the output of the Industrial Revolution's ever increasing textile evelopments. Another trend was buying an Exhibition commemorative kerchief to use as the center of a quilt,| a design concept that must have been published for fairgoers as there are other, albeit few. known examples. Large square size and format suggest a Pennsylvania origin though no provenance accompanied it
