SCHERENSCHNITTE APPLIQUE ANTIQUE QUILT, PA. Mennonite; museum piece
| An identical quilt is in the collection of the International Quilt Study Center (IQSC) Museum at the University of Nebraska. Probably one Pennsylvania woman made both (one for each child?) or this concept was a graphic design shared by her community. The monumental scale of the pattern is striking. The symmetry was achieved by folding fabric in four, then cutting out the intricate design and placing it on a background.The process' resemblance to the PA.folk craft of paper cutting lends it this name. Individual birds nestle among the foliate motifs. Condition is strong, there is a subtle fade line where the quilt was folded.
