FOUNDATION ROSEBUDS APPLIQUE ANTIQUE QUILT yellow

12 identical blocks feature a lovely spring like Foundation Rose pattern but atypical thanks to the addition of buds around a full blown rose, and a green stem at the flower's base bending on the diagonal. This orientation makes it easy to display or use horizontally or vertically which is an unusual feature not seen much in other appliques of the era.

Floral appliques were wildly popular during the 1920s-1940s era, so much so that many companies produced easy to applique patterns. instructing and even offering cottons fabric choices (so that many examples are identical in look and format), having a traditional format of a center medallion with flowers around, etc.

This one is a special find because it repeats blocks in a more geometric type applique style that is a carryover from the floral quiltmaking of the 19th century. Embellished with a prairie point border of folded yellow triangles.
