A monumental graphic created from an elementary format. The pieced top of the quilt was made as a Bars pattern alternating tobacco and brilliant blue wool then cut into four quadrants and joined with their directions rotated to achieve this powerful image. Remarkably modern graphic from a quilt that dates from the last quarter of the 19th century and originated from a religious based community-Amish or Mennonite. Lancaster County, PA origin.
