Remarkable construction, truly 3 dimensional because this is made of tiny triangles folded and sewn down atop the previous layer in a circular configuration. This is an imaginative use of flag bunting made into an intricate pieced pattern quilt, rather than draping a grandstand. Pieced "target" blocks are joined with sashing and framed with a diagonally striped border emulating the American flag; this border is a clue to the materials with. The Targets vary in depth of color because the materials within have oxidized differently over time and some have lost tone. Probably southern in origin, maker unidentified. Unique present for a political person. This is the quilt featured in the summer issue 2011 of The Quilt Life Magazine of the American Quilters Society, in my column For All It's Worth.
