| Superb quality and detail in this fine coverlet created by preeminent New York State weaver Harry Tyler. Bears his signature E Pluribus Unum eagle with ribbon in its beak as the signature corner block. Made for Maria Russell, 1842. The coloration is unusual, it appears to be black, and in places seems also to read as dark green (a color shift than can result over time from early black dyes); this is a color I have not seen before in his work. If it is instead a dark indigo, it is soooo dark and alluring. No geneology done yet, but easy enough because it is placed in the St Lawrence County, N Y area. A best of kind example.
