Strong handsome color combination of deep brown, teal blue/green, cheddar and white suggests a Southern origin, possibly North Carolina. This strong graphic combines two classic geometric designs--Duck's Foot in the Mud and Nine Patch, making a more unusual interpretation of this pieced pattern. The pieced block is also referred to (in Brackman 1889a) as Goose Tracks LAC#156 (1895); Pride of Italy and Italian Beauty (from McKim) and Blue Birds in Flying Household Mag. 1933; also 1889b and c, Dove at the Crossroads, Dove in the Window.
