AFRICAN AMERICAN MEDALLION STRIP FRAMED ANTIQUE QUILT
This bold graphic is pieced of the rayon satin materials from which team sport jackets ave been made. It is not known whether the quilt maker worked for thefactory that produced the fabric or manufactured the jackets, or whether the jackets were collected from thrift store to re make into quilts. The resulting creation is novel, exciting and graphic. The center medallion is one of the oldest formats in quiltmaking, here modernized through the use of the contemporary fabrics and the bright colors. Narrow strips of fabric surround the open square center with many more frames than one is accustomed to in this type of design.
