The youngest quilt in the inventory - it had to be bought for those irresistible dots and fabulous colors. I have always enjoyed seeing dots or circles emerge when four pieced blocks are joined together, this optical illusion occur in several traditional antique quilt patterns and is discussed in my book Quilts Of Illusion. Those were made usually with prints during both the 19th and the early 20th century. I don't think I have ever seen one that is unabashedly dots like this charmer; the basic pattern is a pieced Bowtie. The solids and the color intensity here give it a modern dynamic, sort of a precursor to the dots painting series by contemporary artist Damien Hirst.
