Spectacular variation of one the three most tradtional early 20th century quilts made--the Grandmother's Flower Garden pieced of hexagons. Several thousand one-inch hexagons arranged as baskets of flowers are rotated so they point toward the center to create a radiant, almost abstract composition. Few examples of this complex pattern have surfaced. Arranged in this way they also form a large six point star with half blocks as the border. The use of solid colors adds depth. Exhibited at the International Quilt Show at the Tokyo Dome in JAPAN January 2012 in the special exhibition of hexagon quilts.
