Small flags representing many countries of the world have each been sewn to a square block and all combined into a quilt. Probably created to commemorate the Centennial Exhibition of 1876 in Philadelphia at which such groups of flags would have been sold as souvenirs. Fine cotton sateen background and fine needlework appliquing the flags. Cable quilting in the sashing and borders. One spot which we feel can come out when we have it handled by our conservator
