SILK LOG CABIN COURTHOUSE STEPS CRIB QUILT

  • 28" x 38"
  • late 19th c
  • Excellent
  • $ 1,475.00
  • available

WS 10769

Everything is scaled down for this crib quilt, though can't imagine it was meant for a child's use as it contains formal decorative silks. Just right for to hang on a wall, though. Each square is under 3" of scintillating colorful silks whose light and dark tones dance about the quilt surface. Pattern is called COURTHOUSE STEPS variation. Original green silk ribbon binding.

WS 10770

All kinds of pictures to enchant a child-boats, animals, hearts, etc. Each applique design was probably its own pattern for a child's quilt, but were combined here for an instructive as well as a charming decorative accent.

COWBOYS AND HORSES CRIB QUILT

  • 36" x 44"
  • 1950s
  • excellent untouched
  • $ 795.00
  • available

WS 10751

Rollicking presentation of the pop culture imagery of the mid-20th century. Chaps-clad roping cowboy and the horse were made both as fabric appliques, and echoed in embroidery. Good composition has the embroidered blocks centering the quilt like a medallion, surrounded by applique figures. This pattern most likely probably published, as I have seen a version of it before, but just alternating horse and cowboy squares. This one thoughtfully differs because of the medallion center framed by full figures.

STARBURST CRADLE QUILT

  • 32" sq
  • 1860-70
  • Brown cotton cracked, otherwise fabrics intact
  • $ 550.00
  • available

WS 10756

A heart's desire because it miniaturizes an eye- dazzling 19th century pattern that always astonishes when made full size. Brilliant color remains as intense as when it was printed, but....the solid brown cotton corners are beginning to crack. Conserved now with netting to anchor it all in place. Back is a pieced one- patch quilt in period cotton prints.

SIX POINT STARS in HEXAGONS DOLL'S QUILT

  • 18" x 24"
  • 1890-1900
  • Excellent
  • $ 695.00
  • available

WS 10743

A tiny treasure of primary colors made for a tiny bed. Actually a quite complex pattern reduced in scale--a six point calico star within a red hexagon; white triangles create a secondary larger, open six-point star. Skillfully done for so small a space. No information available as to the maker-maybe doll's owner herself or an adult.

LEMOYNE STARS DOLL'S QUILT

  • 20" square center
  • 1840-50
  • weathered but OK
  • $ 675.00
  • available

WS 10744

Tiny now-pale pieced stars fill the interior of the counterpane quilt intended for a doll's bed. I believe the ruffled white border is a later addition, but the small scale center was always intended as a doll's quilt; perhaps a subsequent owner had a four poster doll's bed. Weathered reds and 'double pinks' are period mid-19th century prints.

  • pristine
  • $ 795.00

Fresh chipper youth ned size quilt of nautical imagery was a published pattern. Nice touches include the nautical rope serving as a framework for the imagery, and the brilliant marine blue ground.

HAWAIIAN 'MONARCHY' CRIB QUILT

  • 36" square
  • 1950s
  • $ 1,100.00
  • available

WS 10678

An unusual discovery is a crib size quilt done in the distinctive Hawaiian applique manner and reflecting the textile history of the islands. The crown at center represents Hawaiian royalty and is the motif seen on many early Hawaiian monarchy quilts, here shown a half century later in diminutive form.
