True red and a paisley-esque print of red and gold. Visually enticing simple quilt, with color and a print that I would love to have more of. Either Welsh or Irish, the 'strippy' alternates narrow panels of fabric, and is embellished with beautiful quilting, adding real texture to enliven the solid strips particularly

MARSEILLES BEDSPREAD with RED PALM TREES

  • 82" x 86"
  • 1880s
  • Excellent untouched
  • $ 1,350.00
  • available

WS 20229

A 'Marseilles' woven bedspread of rare appearance, with palm tree motifs woven in a soft red. Traditional Marseilles spreads replicate the handquilted 18th century whitework of France, and are all white. Manufactured primarily in England before the turn of the 20th century. This is perhaps the second or third Marseilles with motifs woven in color that I have ever seen. The technique here is the best quality, emulating trapunto quilting in whitework with raised motifs everywhere.

WHOLE CLOTH 1950s floral

  • 68" x 72"
  • 1940-50s
  • Excellent untouched
  • $ 445.00

WS 10761

Cotton yardage of the kind seen in upholstery and home accents now transformed into a whole cloth quilt. The vivid multicolor floral borders would have seen other use as the hem of draperies, no doubt. A great blue ground floral print, as cheerful and durable as the floral cloths of the same period so collected today.
