  • 84 sq
  • 1920s
  • Excellent
  • $ 3,750.00
  • available

WS 10787

Each star arm is pieced of little bits or shards of early 20th century prints that glow against the black cotton sateen ground. Quilted in white to be visible against the dark ground. The nine repeat pieced blocks in a large square quilt format suggest a southeast PA origin. A penultimate example of a rustic quiltmaking form, making stars from fabric bits.

MAPLE LEAF tropical Deco prints

  • 78 sq
  • 1920-30s
  • Excellent never used crisp
  • $ 850.00
  • available

WS 10789

Wow, what an impact when tropical prints are used instead of staid solid colors to piece the classic leaf pattern. Hot colors in mostly verdant prints in teal, aqua, gold, hot pink. Skillfully pieced, a surely one-of-a-kind departure from the staid autumn leaf traditionals. All leaves face in the same direction, easy to look at should you want to hang it

SEERSUCKER FOUR-POINT or KITE

  • 78 sq
  • 1940s
  • Crisp never used untouched
  • $ 785.00
  • available

WS 10790

This is only the second quilt I have ever had pieced of seersucker, I think because because how the fabric is created makes it more difficult to piece evenly. This quiltmaker surmounted that challenge and made many blocks using a variety of seersucker prints, containing all within a solid salmon color border.

POSTAGE STAMP UPSCALED NINE PATCH

  • 76 "sq (double)
  • 1920-30s
  • Excellent untouched
  • $ 1,150.00
  • available

WS 10791

A complex and intricate pattern that enlarges a Nine Patch pattern to a monumental scale using postage stamp size pieces! Refreshing concept. Large pieced blocks contain 100+ tiny postage stamp prints. Placement of the greens within has created Xs that connect the blocks. That green is repeated in the green inner border and even more postage stamps create an outer border and corner blocks. Whew, lots of strategizing went into this composition; I couldn't do it, that's for sure.

PIECED DIAMOND IN A SQUARE prints

  • 76 sq
  • 1920s-30s
  • $ 785.00
  • available

WS 10793

Different portions of the same print combine, the fabric probably bought specifically to create this pretty quilt. Rose, blue and pale green are included, but no one colors dominates; harmonious center diamond and similarly pieced corners and borders, dramatically intersected with solid white.

WS 10794

One of the grand 1930s classics that would incorporate lots of charming Depression-era feedsack prints as a salvage art. All contained within a wide apple green border. Mint, untouched condition, beautiful colors can work in many interiors--peachy,violet, spring like. Classic with the dimaonds set in concentric squares. AMISH 'BRICK STEPS'

  • 72" x 84" (double,.queen bed)
  • 1940s
  • Excellent untouched condition
  • $ 2,750.00
  • available

WS 10778

Rich deep colors, visually dynamic design. Midwest AMISH. The BRICK STEPS pattern radiates out from its center in concentric "stepped' diamonds that are formed of small rectangles about 1 5/8" x 3 5/8" each. Navy blue, marine blue, and forest green cotton. 1/2" grey binding (not visible in photo). Quilted with white thread, an Amish tradition to make stitches visible against a darker background. Several quilting patterns: a feather variation for the 7" wide outer border, teacup quilting next on the inner border, and "outline" quilting stitches about 1/4" in from each seam of the pieces. A graphic departure from the repeat block format we associate with some midwestern Amish rectangular shape quilts. The outer and inner borders relationship suggests a Holmes County, Ohio origin.

Fantastic color, but don't know what to call it--bittersweet, caramel, sort of orange but better, more chic, warmer. Fantastic pattern --lots of movement, complex piecing in alternating diagonal rows. Skilled workmanship. Pristine condition.Exciting, unusual pieced quilt.
